Important Messages from the OMMU

As of June 12, 2023, in accordance with section 381.986(6)(b)6., Florida Statutes, and the Department of Health’s Emergency Rule 64ER23-2, all NON-CLOSE RELATIVES applying for a caregiver Medical Marijuana Use Registry (MMUR) identification card must complete a level 2 background screening, pursuant to section 381.986(9), Florida Statutes, through a Livescan Service Provider.

Section 381.986(1)(c), Florida Statutes, defines a “close relative” as “a spouse, parent, sibling, grandparent, child, or grandchild, whether related by whole or half blood, by marriage, or by adoption.”

Current caregivers will be grandfathered in until the time of their next renewal.

We are the OMMU

Every day, the OMMU works to provide qualified patients, caregivers and physicians the information and resources they need to access Florida's medical marijuana program.

The OMMU also writes and implements the Department of Health's rules for medical marijuana; oversees the statewide Medical Marijuana Use Registry; licenses Florida businesses to cultivate, process and dispense medical marijuana to qualified patients and certifies marijuana testing laboratories to ensure the health and safety of the public as it relates to marijuana.
